You can turn any existing Grid/Graph in your document into a widget that is displayed in MicroStrategy Web, as long as the Grid/Graph meets the data requirements for the selected type of widget. For example, your document contains a Grid/Graph with the Region attribute on the rows and the Profit Margin metric on the columns. You can assign a Gauge widget to this Grid/Graph. When you open the document in MicroStrategy Web, the Grid/Graph is no longer displayed as a Grid/Graph but rather as a Gauge widget. Viewing the widget in MicroStrategy Web allows you to better visualize the metric data in the Grid/Graph.
This procedure assumes that a Grid/Graph is already in the document. For steps, see Adding Grid/Graphs to documents.
Open the document in Design or Editable mode.
Right-click the Grid/Graph that you want to turn into a widget, and select Properties and Formatting. The Properties and Formatting dialog box is displayed.
From the left, select Widget.
From the Widget drop-down list, point to one of the following:
Flash: Display widgets viewable in Flash Mode.
DHTML: Display widgets viewable in Interactive Mode, Express Mode, and Flash Mode.
Mobile: Display widgets viewable on an iPhone, iPad, or Android device that has MicroStrategy Mobile downloaded.
Select the type of widget you want to turn the Grid/Graph into. For a list of data requirements for each type of widget, see the topic for the widget type, listed in Providing Flash-based analysis and interactivity: Widgets.
Click OK to apply the changes.
View and test your results in one of two ways:
Select Flash Mode from the Home menu.
If Flash Mode is not available in the Home menu, you must make Flash Mode available in the document. For steps, see Defining which display modes are available to users.
Select Interactive Mode from the Home menu.
DHTML must be enabled in order to display widgets in Interactive Mode in MicroStrategy Web. For instructions to enable DHTML, see Enabling DHTML in MicroStrategy Web.
